India recently crossed the bar of 3M coronavirus cases and is sitting behind Brazil and the United States in the world chart.

Santi Bai 'Maya' Hanoomanjee, cousin of the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, was nominated as the High Commissioner of Mauritius to India shortly after Jugnauth's alliance won the general elections of 2019 by scoring 37.68% of Mauritian votes. On 21 May 2020 she presented her appointment letter to the Indian President, Ram Nath Kovind via a virtual ceremony.

She returned to Mauritius on 25 August accompanied by her husband and both of them are currently in quarantine, reports Defimedia.info. I could not find any mention in other press articles whether they are staying in a quarantine centre or they have been allowed to self-quarantine.

Maja Hanoomanjee has been a controversial figure since her biased rulings as the Speaker of the National Assembly. To refresh the memories of some, let me remind you of this incident during the parliament sitting of 25 April 2017 when the Prime Minister, Pravind K. Jugnauth retorted to a question by Roshi Bhadain and told him that « you were licking my hands and other parts. »

After viewing the video records of the National Assembly which confirmed that the Prime Minister uttered the unparliamentary words, Maya Hanoomanjee simply smirked and asked Pravind Jugnauth to withdraw the words.

However, she never showed such « kindness » towards members of the opposition.
