Operating system updates when fast and smooth, it is always a pleasure to see. No one ever wants a slow machine because updates are hogging resources. Thanks to cloud.mu who sponsored a server and bandwidth, we now have an Ubuntu mirror in Mauritius.
Until a few months ago, there were only two openSUSE mirrors in the whole African continent — in South Africa and Kenya. Now, Mauritius has joined the list by adding two more openSUSE mirrors in Africa.
Let's Encrypt is a non-profit Certificate Authority (CA) run by Internet Security Research Group that provides X.509 certificates for Transport Layer Security encryption at no charge. Its goal is to make all websites secure using HTTPS.
openSUSE Leap uses source from SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE), which gives Leap a level of stability unmatched by other Linux distributions, and combines that with community developments to give users, developers and sysadmins the best stable Linux experience available.
This is something I had planned since long — a local mirror for openSUSE users. The only hiccup to it was finding a server & bandwidth sponsor. In fact, sponsorship is usually the struggle for open source projects and/or activities, in Mauritius.
The openSUSE Leap 15.4 Beta was released on 2 March 2022. Users can test the beta distribution to hunt and report bugs. The final release of Leap 15.4 is scheduled for 8 June 2022.
We did not have physical meetups for perhaps longer than a year. So, when Luboš told me that he is visiting Mauritius and will be glad to meet local openSUSE, Linux & FOSS people, I was thrilled. Not to mention he'd bring some openSUSE goodies. 😊 I called up LUGM friends to make this happen.
I tried to keep the title of this post less ambiguous or misleading as the others that I found in the past two days.
It's the time of the year when Ariez, Edwin and myself hold our regular meetings and chats to plan the openSUSE Board Election. This year we had a twist with insufficient nominations.
