DevFest 2020 at Uniciti Mauritius

The GDG DevFest 2020 happened on the Saturday 21st November in Mauritius. It was the first physical tech event after the confinement. We hope that the pandemic situation improves and that we have more of such events on the island.

openSUSE Board Election 2020 announced

The openSUSE Regular Board Election has been announced for the 15th of December 2020. Results will be published on the new year's eve, i.e 31st December. Call for nominations and applications for the openSUSE Board candidacy is now open.

Creator of the Python programming language, Guido van Rossum joins Microsoft, after retirement

Guido joined Google in 2005 and was ranked Senior Staff Engineer. He worked for Dropbox as a Principal Engineer from 2013 until 2019 when he announced his retirement.

DevFest 2020 Mauritius

The GDG Mauritius and the Mauritius Software Craftsmanship Community (MSCC) are bringing the DevFest 2020 this November. The previous DevFests have been successful and no doubt this year's event will be great too, despite the challenges brought by the pandemic.

Microsoft Edge preview for Linux

A year after an announcement that Microsoft Edge is coming to Linux, now Edge is available through DEB and RPM packages for major Linux distributions. These packages can be downloaded from the Microsoft Edge Insider website.

Hacktoberfest Mauritius 2020

The virtual Hackertoberfest event happened last night. Folks from the local tech community joined in to celebrate open source software. I joined them too and spoke about Flatpak on openSUSE.

During the closing session of the Virtual Developers Conference, last month, Jochen Kirstaetter (a.k.a JoKi) announced the creation of Jobs in Tech (JiT). Jobs in Tech is operated by Agile Media for the Mauritius Software Craftsmanship Community.

openSUSE + LibreOffice Conference 2020

oSLO 2020 kicked-off on Thursday 15 October at 10h00 UTC with an opening address by The Document Foundation's Chairman, Lothar Becker. The conference was due to happen in Nuremberg, Germany, but due to the pandemic plans were changed and event went fully online

Mauritius: Cybersecurity Bill

The Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation (TCI), Deepak Balgobin, announced that the Cybersecurity Bill will be introduced to the National Assembly of Mauritius as parliament resumes on the 3rd of November 2020
